Kroombit Tops National Park - Cities, Towns and Localities
The magnificent Kroombit Tops National Park covers over 34,000 ha, showcasing lush rainforests, steep sandstone escarpments peaking with a plateau of  subtropical eucalypt forest. Featuring rugged gorges, large waterfalls and ever stretching views of the surrounding country.

4WD access is recommended if visiting this park, bush camping is permitted however there are no camping facilities or cleared locations for camping, fresh water and other essentials must be brought into the park. Camping permits are a must and can be obtained from the Ranger in Charge as listed below.

Another unusual item of interest that can be seen in the park is the remains of the "Beautiful Betsy" an American B-24D Liberator aeroplane No 42-40387 which disappeared in February of 1945 she disappeared somewhere between Darwin and Brisbane on a routine supply run for military personnel based in Darwin.

It wasn't until the 25th July 1994 that the mystery surrounding her disappearance was solved when she was discovered in a very steep and remote gully of the Kroombits Tops National Park during a routine fire burn off by the National Parks and Wildlife Service. An officer of the Dept Mr Mark Roe found a propeller and then the rest of the craft soon after which was then confirmed to be the remains of the famous aircraft.
