Village in the Hills
One of Queensland highest towns at 882m this small town (pop.
1000) has a varied history being the first settlement on
the Atherton Tablelands, mining for tin first started here
in 1880. Set amongst tall eucalypts and brilliant jacaranda
trees the town straddles the Great Dividing Range with views
down the slopes on each side.
Today agriculture is the mainstay of the area with maize
and potatoes the main industry, tourism as in most towns in
this area is growing and with the pleasant climate of this
town due to its altitude provides for a less humid lifestyle
in the tropics.
