Following are some events happening in Northern Territory. For more information, check the destination pages of the town or area you are visiting.

Contact the local visitor centre for your destination to get the low-down on what is happening in the region for when you are there.

Some events happen at the same time throughout Australia, such as Christmas and New Years Eve celebrations, ANZAC Day, Australia Day, local markets, agricultural shows etc. Some scheduled events only have approximate dates, with some dates changing or being cancelled.

When planning your travel around events, contact the holder of the event or the local visitor centre where the event is happening to confirm the event timetable.

Australia Wide Events - Northern Territory

Location Event

  Australia Day
• 26th January
A day when we come together to celebrate Australia and being Australian. Celebrations are nation wide.

Details can be found on the government Australia Day site.

  ANZAC Day
• 25th April
This day of remembrance marks the deaths and sufferings of brave men and women, who lost their lives in the fight to bring peace and harmony to the world.

It commemorates the landing at Gallipoli in 1915 (during World War I), which saw men from two countries, Australia and New Zealand, come together and fight as one, the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps.

The massive loss of life, was deeply felt, and today it is a day we mark as
ANZAC Day: Lest We Forget.

  Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve
• 24-31 December
Capital cities throughout Australia and many of the major cities often put on special events such as Carol by Candlelight and New Years Eve firework display. Details can often be found on the local council sites.

Frequent Events - Northern Territory

Alice Springs Alice Springs Courtyard Sessions
• Activities and events are held monthly see the Facebook page for information.
Monthly Sunday afternoon concerts set against the backdrop of the magnificent MacDonnell Ranges. A feast for the senses.

Alice Springs Todd Mall Markets
• Usually held every 2 weeks on a Sunday from 9 am to 1 pm in summer (finishes 2 pm in winter). Special market days are also sometimes held.
The market is a chance to enjoy the atmosphere and mix with the locals, check out their wares, purchase Aboriginal art direct from the artists, enjoy the smells and taste of the food stalls, purchase a souvenir of your holidays.

Darwin Mindil Beach Sunset Markets
• last week in April until the end of October:
Thursday 5 pm - 10 pm and Sunday 4 pm - 9 pm
Recognised by the National Trust as an ‘Icon of National Significance’ and with a swag of other awards under their belt, the Mindil Beach Sunset Market continues its advancement of multiculturalism in the Northern Territory.

Live the Lifestyle - Managed by a community owned, incorporated, non-profit association, the markets provides more self-made craft than any other market in Australia, with over 56 different foods stalls, a huge range of entertainment, from street theatre, children’s amusements and free concerts. Less than 3 km from Darwin city centre, it is easy to see why this market continues to attract visitors from around the world.

Darwin Nightcliff Markets
• 6 am to 2 pm - Sundays
Enjoy a relaxing morning, listening to some great entertainment while the kids play nearby in the playground. Sample our array of tasty foods such as curries, soups, crepes, satays, sushi, samosas, burgers, noodles.. and locally grown fresh fruit and vegetables. Wash it down with an energizing cup of freshly ground coffee or a healthy fruit smoothy or juice. Then wander around the diverse range of arts and craft, clothing, plants, massage, tarot and collectables stalls every Sunday morning.

Darwin Parap Village Markets
• 8 am - 2 pm - Saturday morning.
A treasured institution since 1982, the Parap Markets have a diverse range of stallholders who set up under shady trees, awnings and umbrellas, selling their wares. From the exotic flavours of Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia and Indonesia cooked food, there is plenty else to tantalise the taste buds. Relax with family and friends over fruit smoothies and gourmet coffee, or an ice treats for the kids. Pick up your fresh produce, a diverse range that include Asian greens and exotic fruits the likes of which you have never seen. You can also browse a range of other crafts, clothing, jewellery and gems, artworks, beauty products, decor, specialist crafts, souvenirs, potted plants and cut flowers, enjoy massage techniques from around the world, tarot and much much more.
