Orange Drummer - Cicada
(Thopha colorata)

The Orange Drummer, also known as the Golden Drummer or Big W, is very common in Central Australia. A large cicada, the nymphs are found living on the roots of the River Red Gums.

The adults are usually seen from November to February when conditions are right.

The final stage where the cicada moult their skin, emerging as an adult. The newly emerged adult is pale in colour, darkening to their final colours as they dry.
