Located just over 26 km south of the Sydney CBD, in the Sutherland Shire, Cronulla is a popular seaside suburb located on a peninsula with Port Hacking on the south and Botany Bay to the north. Some of the beaches include Cronulla Beach, North Cronulla Beach, Wanda Beach, Elouera Beach, Blackwoods Beach and Shelly Beach.

The major beaches are patrolled throughout the year by council lifeguards and during the summer in conjunction with volunteers from the local Surf Life Saving Clubs.

Cronulla is also a well known spot for surfing and bodyboarding, being the location for the annual ‘Cronulla Shark Island Challenge’ bodyboarding contest.

As well as its beach and surfing culture, it is also popular spot for leisurely activities with the family, offering some great spots to eat.

Cronulla Beach CBD encompasses Cronulla Plaza and also include Perryman Square and the many businesses in the surrounding area. Check the website for additional information and calendar of events.
With its ‘life savers’ culture, and its relaxed atmosphere, Cronulla offer many beaches catering for swimmers, surfers, bodyboarders, and families. Beaches from north to south include: Wanda Beach, Elouera Beach, North Cronulla Beach, Blackwoods Beach and Shelly Beach.

Shark Island

Shark Island is a dangerous reef break, located about 100 metres off Cronulla Beach. It comprises a rock ledge that is fully exposed at low tide.

It is here at Shark Island that the world renown annual ‘Shark Island Challenge’ bodyboarding contest is held. Check out the Cronulla Shark Island Challenge website for information about the ‘The Peak’, ‘White Rock’ or the ‘Surge’, to understand why it has become the most prestigious bodyboarding event in the world today.
