Set in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains is the historic
Adelong, the perfect place to make your base when visiting the
Snowy Mountains and the
Kosciuszko National Park. With its
rich gold mining past, 25 tonnes of gold was mined between 1857 and
1914, Adelong’s early mining history is recognised with a large
section of the main street and a number of buildings being
classified by the National Trust of Australia. Take
time out to do the historic township walk that takes in many of it’s
famous buildings and local history.
Among the attractions of
course is the
Snowy Mountains, the Snowy Mountains Scheme, the
Kosciuszko National Park, and Tourist Drive 5, that takes in a large
part of the local area, including the “High Country” and the
“Yarrangobilly Caves”. You could try your hand at panning for gold
on Adelong Creek, and also visit the Adelong Falls.
An ideal conclusion to any of the trips is
to enjoy a “Taste of the Riverina” at the
Guesthouse and if you are stuck for accommodation, check them
