Only 3.5 hours by road from Sydney and 1.5 hours from Canberra, Harden Shire,
that includes Murrumburrah is a picturesque region, that is also steeped in
history, Murrumburrah being one of the earliest settlements in the south west.
Harden, first known as Murrumburrah North, was created as a rail centre, that
developed as a major stopover with railway workshops and refreshment rooms,
especially for the hundreds of travellers. Harden was named in 1880 by the
Postmaster-General, after the name of the County.
